The short story:  unavoidably, like a lot of global events, GI 2020 didn’t happen.

Safety and certainty for our participants, competitors, organisers and supporters are paramount at the best of times in our exciting and challenging event location.

The long range planning, commitment and organisation required by both event organisers and competitors represents an immeasurable range of factors that didn’t (no matter how we tried) seem realistic for 2020 under the massive health, economic and logistical uncertainty/s that came along with COVID19. Our event tradewind window starts to thin around August onwards, so even considering an interim 2020 postponement didn’t add to the certainty.

After 7 remarkable and outstandingly successful events, we hesitated to make the 2020 decision. But at the same time, to be bold and confident that all factors – and all participants – considered, we had made the best decision. Under unprecedented circumstances. We thank everyone for their ongoing support and understanding.

We’re also mindful of the credibility of the event as a National Championship. We want everyone to be able to commit and participate. With confidence.

Back to the game. Moving forward.

Our commitment to GI Nats and the enthusiasm of our supporters and participants is stronger than ever. Our focus shifts to 2021.  See you on the reef.
